South Yorkshire-born singer-songwriter Drew Davies is stepping into a bold new chapter with the release of ‘La Revanche’, his first new music in more than two years.

Drawing inspiration from the passion, betrayal, and obsession found within French Romantic literature, the single marks a dramatic evolution in his sound, blending gothic rock atmospheres, cinematic orchestration, and hard-hitting alternative rock energy. Known for his rich baritone voice and emotionally charged songwriting, Davies has steadily built a reputation across the UK and Europe, earning support from influential BBC broadcasters and respected music publications alike.

With ‘La Revanche’, he not only embraces the darker corners of his artistic identity but also introduces his full live band into the recording process for the first time, creating a release that feels both expansive and intensely personal.

We caught up with Drew to discuss the inspiration behind the track, his love of cinematic storytelling, and what this exciting new era means for his music moving forward.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in music?

Sure, I’m from South Yorkshire, music kind of runs in my family and long story short…I started playing in bands at university, I then moved to London to take things more seriously afterwards with a microphone and a backpack and I stayed there for about 15 years.

Who are your biggest musical influences and how have they shaped your sound?

I’d say Queen were my biggest musical influence growing up, Freddie Mercury especially and I think the grand elements of their sound is something I aspired to. I was also a huge  fan of Van Halen and Tom Petty. New Wave also had a big impact on me, bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure. Nine inch Nails, Faith no More, Talk Talk, Roxy Music all were an influence too. I love a wide variety of music, modern artists I’m enjoying a lot, Getdown Services at the moment…

Was there a specific moment or experience that made you decide to pursue music seriously?

Watching Queen Live at Milton Keynes on VHS, specifically the performance of Dragon Attack, I remember it vividly.

Can you walk us through your typical songwriting process?

It varies, sometimes a lyric comes first, sometimes the music. A chord can greatly inform the tone of what I’m about to write…I try to write as routine and often you’re writing some music and waiting for it to tell you what it is too.

How do you find inspiration for your music and lyrics?

Everywhere, but I find social interactions and life influences me most. I notice when the going gets tough, I get to writing..

What themes or messages do you hope listeners take away from your music?

Hope, that seems to be an underlying theme.

What challenges have you faced as an emerging artist in the music industry?

This would require it’s own article entirely, Hunter S Thompson said it best

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your musical journey so far?

As a younger man playing Download and Bloodstock festivals and touring Europe, but honestly, writing these songs on my own and operating under my own name as an artist and writer is my most rewarding achievement.

How do you stay true to yourself and your artistry in a constantly evolving industry?

Be yourself, not what someone tells you to be.

What can fans expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or tours?

I have a lot more music in the works and some plans to get out playing more shows, in the UK and abroad.

Where do you see yourself and your music career in the next five years?

I’m a painter, so I’ll paint…I hope many more people will find the songs.
