And that sense of escape sits at the heart of ‘California Summer Dream’, the latest release from Italian producer and artist Coffeeshop. Moving beyond the festival-focused EDM foundations that first shaped his catalogue, he steps into polished pop with a track built around friendship, romance and the fleeting pleasure of allowing the present moment to be enough.
The single imagines Southern California as an emotional state; where cold cherry cola, open skies, surfboards and glowing sunsets provide the scenery, but the real subject is freedom from urgency. The outside world can continue moving, but for a few hours, nothing matters beyond the people gathered nearby and the feeling that the evening still has somewhere to go.
The accompanying video extends that idea through a pastel-toned vision of the Southern Californian coast. Bright, melodic and refreshingly free from complication, ‘California Summer Dream’ finds Coffeeshop broadening his sound without abandoning the generosity that has defined his work. It offers no grand solution to the pressures waiting beyond the beach. For a little over one song, it simply lets the world wait.
