For his first solo single ‘Parlo Papitro’, Berlin-based songwriter Karlo Bromsen takes a tiny hand-drawn character created by his son Willi and turns him into the centre of a bright, eccentric indie-pop universe. It’s an endearing starting point, but the song works because the artist develops the idea beyond simple novelty, combining family creativity, electronic production and offbeat storytelling into a release with a clear identity of its own.
Papito is a small cartoon figure who emerges from a corked bottle and wanders through a world of bees, bumblebees, troublesome villains and domestic disorder. The imagery is deliberately peculiar, carrying the loose logic of a child’s imagination rather than the polished structure of conventional pop storytelling. And that freedom gives the project much of its charm.
Musically, ‘Parlin Papito’ is upbeat and melodic, with indie-pop hooks supported by playful electronic details. The production feels light on its feet, allowing the track to move with a summery sense of momentum while leaving room for its stranger edges. His own experience as the voice of indietronic act Bromsen is evident in the balance between accessible songwriting and more experimental textures.
The hook provides the song with a solid foundation. However unusual the character or visual setting becomes, the central melody remains direct enough to hold everything together. This prevents ‘Parlin Papito’ from feeling like a joke extended beyond its natural limits. The concept may be whimsical, but the songwriting is treated very seriously.
There is also something quietly touching about the artist using his son’s artwork as the foundation for a new phase of his own career. ‘Parlin Papito’ becomes a collaboration across generations, even though its young co-creator may not have anticipated where the original sketch would lead.
As a solo debut, the single shows a lighter and more character-driven side to his writing. It’s catchy, odd and warmly personal, with enough melodic substance to support its playful concept.
