‘State Of Mind’ feels like the kind of song that only really makes sense after midnight. BECHILL’s latest single arrives with a dark, inward-looking intensity, pulling alternative hip-hop, R&B and electronic pop into a track that is restless, confessional and deeply atmospheric. As the second glimpse of her forthcoming debut EP, it also feels like another strong indication of just how broad her creative instincts are becoming.

Written after returning home from London, the song finds BECHILL caught in a period of creative paralysis and self-doubt. But instead of disguising those feelings, she puts them directly at the centre of the track, using sharp phrasing and an exposed vocal performance to work through the fear of not being good enough.

The production leans into a dense, nocturnal atmosphere, with enough scale to feel cinematic while still leaving room for the emotion to cut through. There are traces of the darker pop instincts associated with Billie Eilish, the melodic directness of The Kid LAROI and the moodier edges of contemporary R&B, but BECHILL pushes those influences into something noticeably more personal.

The song begins from a place of insecurity, but it doesn’t remain there for long. By turning those thoughts into music, BECHILL effectively drains them of some of their power. The track therefore becomes less a portrait of defeat than a creative reset, capturing the moment where frustration starts to become momentum again.

As a singer, rapper, songwriter and producer, BECHILL approaches her music as a complete world rather than any single genre. Rap cadences, electronic textures and alternative R&B atmosphere move freely around one another, giving ‘State Of Mind’ a truly unpredictable edge.

Following ‘What is life after death?’, this latest release pushes her further into emotionally charged territory while sharpening the identity around her forthcoming EP. ‘State Of Mind’ is dark, immediate and powerfully self-aware. It’s the sound of an artist staring directly at the doubts trying to stop her and turning them into fuel instead.
