Moontwin‘s latest release, ‘Symbols,’ is a fantastical musical journey that transcends geographical boundaries and overcomes physical challenges. The collaboration between singer-songwriter Maple Bee and Zac Kuzmanov, the founder of XRaydio, results in a mesmerising blend of haunting melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

The track, stemming from the virtual collaboration between Maple in Cornwall, UK, and Zac in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, explores the intricate dance between conscious and unconscious thoughts in the transitional phase of ‘almost sleeping.’ The contradictory interplay of fears, wishes, and dreams intricately weaves itself into the fabric of the song, creating an immersive experience tinged with a wonderful sense of comfort.

The production of ‘Symbols’ left me in awe, with its amazing attention to stereo width that heightened the crystal-clear acoustics. The guitar’s stop-start, almost staccato motion added a hypnotic quality, while the vocals, smooth and unique, guided me through the dreamlike landscape. Beautifully executed harmonies elevated the track, introducing variation to sustain interest, while brilliant guitar playing with the additional touch of lap steel added layers to create a brooding and dreamy masterpiece. The song’s meditative quality lingered long after finishing and left me with a sense of relaxation and calmness.

Moontwin Duo

Moontwin’s ability to create an ambient reflection on life, love, and everything in between has garnered acclaim from various sources with BBC Introducing calling them “sensational,” and Midsummer Madness drawing a compellingly accurate comparison to “Mazzy Star duetting with Leonard Cohen.”

In summary, Moontwin’s ‘Symbols’ is a testament to the power of artistic collaboration and transcending physical barriers. With its intricate production, mesmerising vocals, and haunting melodies, the track invites listeners into a dreamlike realm, leaving them relaxed and captivated. The diverse range of accolades from various sources reinforces Moontwin’s unique and captivating presence in the music scene and I can’t wait to hear what’s next for them.
