From Provo, Utah, teenage upstart Carson Ferris is back with his latest chilled dance track ‘Ghosts’. Marking his first new release in nine months, his first since his highly-praised debut EP ‘Talkin’ To You’, the track follows on from acclaim he has earned from numerous award bodies over the last year. Written by the fourteen-year-old Carson and produced by Matthew Parker, they intended for the song to be an up-tempo electro-pop track, however ‘Ghosts’’ has a far deeper meaning, resulting in an emotional, relaxed, and much cooler sound.

Much like what we got to hear on his initial EP, ‘Ghosts’ pushes out more of that progressive pop aesthetic he is quickly earning a reputation for. Creating this brilliantly vivid texture to his production, heightening his glossy vocal performance at every turn, Ferris finds himself in a wonderfully explorative guise here as he turns out his latest slice of radio-friendly gold.

Carson’s lyrics focus on his insight and observations of toxic behaviour that can occur in unhealthy relationships. Speaking about the track, Carson said “Ghosts is a song about letting go and moving on from situations and people that aren’t good for you. In the bridge, the lyrics say that moving on is the only way things can be ok. That’s definitely true. All that holding on to things like that will do is cause more resentment. Sometimes that can be really hard to do, but it’s a necessary part of life that we can all relate to. And I think forgiveness is an important part of moving on, so I put a lot of emphasis on that in Ghosts. You can’t let go until you forgive, even if it seems easier to hold a grudge.”

‘Ghosts’ is an accessible and enjoyable track. The synths and drum track give it an upbeat energy and a laid-back vibe that is consistently brought back to reality with the honesty and thoughtfulness of Carson’s lyrics. His ability to elevate raw emotion within his wordplay has already found plenty of attention on previous releases, and this new endeavor is no different.

Carson Ferris is very much loved for his exceptional vocals, and this outing showcases yet more of his remarkable talent. With many upcoming shows and the reputation he has been building, this is sure to be another successful year for young Carson.
