In an era saturated with formulaic visuals, Mystic, CT’s Delta of Venus emerge with a breath of visionary defiance. Their debut video for the dual single ‘Disengaged b/w Slipping’ is a cinematic manifesto, artfully reworking the myth of Joan of Arc into a contemporary dreamscape of suburban resistance and quiet rebellion.

Directed with eerie elegance by local visual force Michelle Gemma, the video feels like a found artefact from an alternate timeline- part spiritual ritual, part protest poem. Glitch-adjacent motion, smeared textures, and the haunted stillness of New England suburbia provide the backdrop as a cast of women to move through the ghost echoes of Joan’s unrealised future.

Sonically, ‘Disengaged’ swells like a tidal pull, all hypnotic rhythm and shadowy shimmer. Singer Issy’s vocals float somewhere between incantation and invocation, barely tethered to earth, while Ellery Twining’s guitar work spins gauzy tension into moments of brilliance. Mat Tarbox’s sequencer hums with a kind of premonition, and Shawn Fake’s drums are pulsing undercurrents that suggest something deeper churning beneath the surface.

The video’s transition into ‘Slipping’ acts like a lucid exhale after the dense ritualism of the first half. Here, the tone is lighter- but no less reflective. Where ‘Disengaged’ confronts, ‘Slipping’ invites a surrender: not to apathy, but to transformation. Both tracks live in the in-between, straddling memory and prophecy, beauty and fracture.

Delta of Venus are crafting worlds. With this project, they step boldly into the lineage of artists who use sonic and visual language not just to reflect life, but to reimagine it. File this alongside early Warpaint, Beach House, or even a more grounded take on early Cocteau Twins. It’s shoegaze with a purpose, indie-pop with depth, and a promising sign of what’s to come.
