Hailing from Lafayette, Louisiana, The Links have spent the past decade carving out their place in the indie landscape, evolving from funk-inflected grooves into a brooding fusion of shoegaze, post-punk, and space-rock. With their latest single ‘elvira’, the band pushes their vision even further, offering a dynamic and emotionally-charged sound that stands apart from the genre’s typical haze.

While shoegaze often thrives on murky, submerged vocals, The Links flip the script, bringing the lyricism to the forefront. ‘elvira’ is a lush, dreamy composition layered with expressive, upfront vocals, ensuring that every word cuts through the swirling soundscape with clarity and purpose.

Written by Jack Morrison during a deeply personal moment of grief and self-exploration, the track carries an undeniable weight and rawness beneath the reverb. With Wesley Guillory (guitar), Andrew Lawrence (drums), and Grant Gauthreaux (bass) locking into an intricate arrangement, the band creates an effective balance between ethereal and visceral.

On a sonic level, The Links have long drawn inspiration from Radiohead, Deftones, and Queens of the Stone Age, but their latest releases showcases a deepened fascination with the modern shoegaze resurgence. Hints of Interpol, The Strokes, and The Killers’ post-punk revivalism weave into their textures, creating a sound that feels simultaneously nostalgic and forward-thinking.

‘elvira’ was born through an organic and exploratory recording process. Unlike previous singles that were captured as they’d been played live, this track came together through on-the-spot experimentation, allowing the band to refine each moment and build something that feels wholly immersive and deeply intentional.

Fresh off the momentum of their previous single ‘sela’, the band sees ‘elvira’ as a defining moment; the beginning of a bold new era. As they gear up for festival dates, Lundi Gras celebrations, and performances at Festival International, their transformation from a laid-back indie outfit to an electrifying force of dark, atmospheric rock continues to unfold in real-time.
