Welsh indie pop up-and-comers Lico are set to make waves once again with their latest single ‘Freak’. Bursting onto the scene earlier this year from Merthyr Tydfil, the group have quickly established themselves as purveyors of infectious indie-pop anthems that light up the dancefloor. With ‘Freak’, they continue to build on that reputation, delivering a track that’s as playful as it is irresistible.

Lico, led by frontmen Fin Anderton and Declan Bodger, have a knack for crafting tunes that stick in your head long after the first listen, and ‘Freak’ is no exception. The track is a high-energy, dance-ready explosion of vivacious piano lines and lively synths- think MGMT or The 1975- all underpinned by driving drums and groovy basslines that makes you want to move.

‘Freak’ explores the bittersweet complexities of desire and timing. As Bodger explains, the track is about the tension of wanting someone who doesn’t seem to notice you, and the realisation that sometimes, even when you’re giving it your all, the timing just isn’t right. It’s a theme that many will find relatable, wrapped up in the catchy, upbeat package of an indie-pop gem.

Even in the early stages of their career, Lico have already garnered significant attention, with support from major platforms like BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Wales, and BBC Introducing. Their ability to merge diverse influences into a cohesive and dynamic sound has set them apart as a band to watch in the indie scene. With ‘Freak’, Lico continue to build on the momentum they’ve generated, offering a track that’s sure to become a staple on dancefloors and playlists alike. As they keep pushing boundaries and refining their style, there’s no doubt that Lico are on a fast track to becoming one of the most exciting new acts in indie-pop.
