The Juice, the rising indie-pop outfit hailing from Preston, are poised to cause a stir with their new single ‘Pieces’. This is their second single of 2024 and represents a stellar mixture of rock and breezy, melodic verses that build into a big, sing-along chorus, demonstrating the band’s knack for crafting hooks as well as Polaroid-style indie-pop vibes that would find a spot on any playlist.

The Juice bring an emotional rollercoaster with their single ‘Pieces’. According to frontman Joe, it’s a chilled song that starts slow and introspective, before ending up a heavy and vibrant new offering. The dual tempo of the song represents the transition from moments of anxiety to the bursting of spirit that follows when resilience is found. This is something Jack was well aware of in his struggles with mental health and is a message that hits home, backed by the feel-good nature of the band.

The gentle and thoughtful introduction of ‘Pieces’, “Do I walk the line, do I speak my mind?” are tenderly pondered. These opening lyrics create a meditative air and their soft delivery makes for a space where the messy nature of the human brain, and the vulnerability of the mind and heart is laid open. It soon ends as the track enters its fun and upbeat centre- with the bounce creating an infectious nature of the track and altering the mood entirely. This playful switch from remaining in the singer’s head to a dynamic shift emphasises the ambivalence that underlies the duet, a pendulum swinging between reservation and raw honesty.

The net effect is one of play and improvisation, wrapping the lyrics in an exuberant vitality, a sense of liberation that lets the lyrics land breezy, light, and free of charge even while peeling back layers of this internal fight. It has this element of joyous spirit- singing while dancing, at the same time this royal lyricism- it’s a fun song, and such dynamic to the narrative makes for an extremely captivating track.

With ‘Pieces’, The Juice are expanding boundaries while maintaining the uplifting indie-pop sound that seems to be becoming their calling card. This release ensures them a high spot on the list and seem ready to gain greater heights in the game with their infectious positivity as they remain grounded in honesty.
