If FRUM’s music has always felt like a northern light, then her newest offering ‘Whirlpool’ is the full constellation. The Faroese artist, known for weaving introspection into richly textured soundscapes, unveils a record that feels like a personal unravelling and a cosmic rebirth.
With a core of glowing synths and percussive undercurrents, the album spirals through themes of metamorphosis, renewal, and inner reckoning. It’s ambitious without being grandiose, tethered by Jenný Kragesteen’s feather-light vocals and a sense of emotional gravity that never lets go.
The lead single ‘Sun Aura’, co-produced by rising Nordic talent Moyka, is a standout moment of clarity. It radiates quiet confidence, building from delicate pulses into something bold and solar. Inspired by Nietzsche’s metaphor of the lion, the track captures the tipping point between reflection and action, when a person finally claims their space and their strength.

Across the album’s ten tracks (bookended with cinematic intro and outro pieces), FRUM draws from her own experience: years spent creating between Iceland and Norway, balancing motherhood with artistic pursuit, and reshaping her sound to foreground women in production roles. The result is music that feels organic, but never obvious, carefully constructed yet deeply felt.
‘Whirlpool’ flows like a dream you can dance to. Tracks like ‘Orbit With You’ and ‘Rise’ ripple and shimmer with momentum, while ‘Cycle’ and ‘Wave’ invite listeners into more shadowy, introspective corners. There’s a tidal energy that mirrors the highs and lows of transformation.
With ‘Whirlpool’, FRUM has carved out her own personal universe. One that invites us to let go, get lost, and return changed. FRUM reminds us that some of the most powerful work comes from somewhere within.
