UK outfit Nrvs return with one of their most confrontational statements yet on ‘The Tanks Are Coming Out’, a politically charged new track that turns global instability and personal conflict into a stark piece of experimental rock.
Written while members of the band were imprisoned following peaceful protest action, the song considers military escalation, authoritarian politics and social fragmentation, while drawing parallels between international warfare and the damage created when relationships collapse. As Nrvs explain, the track addresses conflicts including Ukraine and Gaza, but also explores the smaller battles that can erupt between individuals.
Musically, the band takes cues from Brian Eno, John Cale and Faust, with Nrvs member Matt Allchin, whose credits include Florence + The Machine, Joy Crookes and Mark Ronson, handling production.
The release is accompanied by artwork from political photomontage artist Peter Kennard, alongside a video directed by Emmy Chitty and featuring Game of Thrones actor Josef Altin.
Following their I Like You EP, Nrvs continue to combine activism, unsettling imagery and experimental music, building a distinctly dystopian vision of modern life.
