There is something inherently cinematic about the moment a stranger catches your attention and, for a few seconds, the rest of the world seems to fall away. On his new single ‘OMG’, Illinois-born, Nashville-based alt-rock artist James Bruner takes that fleeting spark and turns it into a bright, infectious piece of pop-rock that feels immediate, playful and full of possibility.

Produced by Shane Weisman, the track carries particular significance within his growing catalogue. Written during the pair’s first session together in 2024, it became the starting point for a creative partnership that would eventually develop into Bruner’s forthcoming debut album ‘Can’t Keep Wanting You’. And that origin story makes sense when listening to the song’s easy momentum. There’s an unmistakable sense of discovery running through it, as though both artist and producer are catching a new idea at exactly the right moment.

At the heart of ‘OMG’ is a wonderfully simple premise: infatuation arriving without warning. A passing encounter at a crossing becomes the starting point for something much larger. The song thrives on that giddy uncertainty, balancing romantic impulse with a knowing sense of fun.

Musically, it finds him leaning towards the brighter edge of his alt-rock instincts. The production feels streamlined and energetic, allowing melodic hooks to carry as much weight as the guitars.

Following earlier singles ‘Can’t Keep Wanting You’ and ‘Wish I Could Stay’, the track also strengthens the emotional thread running through his forthcoming album. Here, love appears as a force capable of provoking desire, confidence, frustration and rebellion, and ‘OMG’ represents its most immediate form.

As anticipation builds towards ‘Can’t Keep Wanting You’, ‘OMG’ feels like an important piece of the puzzle. It’s upbeat without becoming lightweight, romantic without slipping into sentimentality, and catchy without sounding calculated.

Sometimes a whole story begins with little more than a glance. James Bruner understands the electricity of that moment, and on ‘OMG’, he makes it sound irresistible.
