Right from the start, ‘PROMISES’ introduces an emerging artist determined to do more than simply reproduce the dominant sounds of contemporary rap. CRYSOFTLY clearly understands the melodic language popularised by figures such as Drake, Kanye West and The Weeknd, but treats those influences as starting points rather than restrictions. At the centre of the EP is ‘MISSIONARY’, the track the artist recognised as exceptional from the moment it was recorded.
