Peppermint Heaven have spent much of their recent work leaning into electronic momentum, but ‘Time To Say Goodbye’ finds the LA duo stepping into something softer, warmer and noticeably more reflective.
This three-song EP trades much of the dancefloor urgency of recent singles such as ‘AI’ and ‘Nothing More Than Love’ for a retro-leaning easy-listening palette, allowing the songwriting to sit closer to the surface.
‘Paper Dreams’ opens the collection with the lightest touch. Its buoyant pop construction contrasts with lyrics concerned with complacency, asking what happens when comfort becomes a substitute for genuine growth. And that tension gives the track more substance than its breezy surface initially suggests.
The title-track follows with a gentler emotional pull. ‘Time To Say Goodbye’ looks towards separation without collapsing into bitterness, carrying a sense of acceptance that suits the EP’s broader mood. There’s something deliberately old-fashioned in the way the melody unfolds, but the restraint works in its favour, giving the song a tenderness that feels sincere throughout.
While ‘Be Who You Are’ pushes furthest into classic power-ballad territory. The arrangement broadens, but the message remains simple: the past doesn’t have to dictate what comes next. Where the earlier songs deal with compromise and farewell, the closer shifts towards self-recognition, giving the EP a clear emotional progression.
There’s also a retrospective quality running through the EP, as though Peppermint Heaven are briefly looking back over the distance travelled before deciding where to head next. And given the duo’s long-running willingness to move between styles, that pause feels earned.
‘Time To Say Goodbye’ may be quieter than some of their recent work, but it’s no less purposeful. It captures a band comfortable enough with its own history to step away from the rush, reflect on what has changed, and let a new chapter begin at its own pace.
